Crockett Post & Beam Roof System

Crockett Log Homes feature a solid heavy timber post & beam roof system

Crockett’s Post & Beam Roof System is a work of modern beauty as well as being a significant part of America’s building heritage.

What does Crockett’s Post & Beam Roof System Include? Ridge Posts are rough sawn to 8” x 8”  and the ridge beams set on top of Crockett Post & Beam roof systemthe ridge posts. Ridge Beams are typically rough sawn to 8” x 14”. Crockett’s structural engineer designs the ridge beam to carry the weight of the roof plus snow load conditions. Roof rafters are rough sawn to 6” x 8” or 6” x 10” and are spaced 4’ on center from the ridge beam to the outside wall with a 12” overhang past the wall.

Crockett’s Post & Beam Roof System timbers are manufactured from northern New England Eastern White Pine. Each timber is harvested from the very center of the tree, known as “boxed hearts”, for maximum strength and minimum twisting. Eastern White Pine Crockett's Post and Beam roof systemwas used by the British Navy sailing ships in the 1600’s – 1700’s for these very features. Early American settlers built their homes using local Eastern White Pine as it was easy to work with, naturally strong and solid, safe, comforting feeling for family living.

Crockett’s Post & Beam Roof System Timbers are complimented by 2” x 6” kiln dried, tongue & groove interlock, v-groove roof decking; usually manufactured from Northern Spruce or Eastern white Pine. Foam Nail base Foam Roof Panels, Oriented Strand board is laminated to one side of rigid expanded polystyrene offering R-40 insulation value. Foam Nail base roof panels have a natural mineral insect protection as well as stabilized R-40 value to save on energy costs in all climates for years of comfortable living.

Crockett also offers an alternative for a sheetrock painted finish look to the Post & Beam roof system. Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) with oriented strand board laminated to both sides of rigid expanded polystyrene, also offering R-40 insulation value. SIP roof panels also have a natural mineral insect protection as well as stabilized R-40 value to save on energy costs in all climates for years of comfortable living.

Crockett’s Custom Design Process is made much easier using a post & beam roof system. Walls are not structural so design flexibility is maximized. Beautiful, energy efficient, and a perfect environment for your individual lifestyle.
