Nation’s First Retreat for Wounded Soldiers & Veterans Slated to Open June 2013

BC-Frame-WebWelcome Center Nears Completion

The nation’s first retreat for wounded soldiers and veterans is closer to becoming a reality.

The Boulder Crest Retreat for Wounded Warriors now has the framing in place that will become a 7,000 square-foot ADA (American Disabilities Act) accessible timber frame “greentech” meeting house and welcome center (see photo).

In addition to the welcome center, the retreat will also feature four ADA accessible 1,600 square foot log cabins. The 37-acre retreat center, slated to open June 2013, will provide soldiers and veterans who are undergoing physical and psychological treatment a first-class rural retreat for them and their families for up to 14 days, free of charge.

To harmonize with the rural mountain setting, the project’s organizers chose timber frame and rustic log cabin designs created by national log and timber home company, Crockett Log & Timber Homes located in Mechanicsburg, PA. Construction work is being done by Berryville, VA-based Starkey Construction Inc., an authorized dealer and builder for Crockett Log & Timber Homes.
